Dallas County, Iowa
One of the top-20 fastest growing counties in America, Dallas County, Iowa enhances citizen services to address its rapid growth.
The steady influx of new residents along with more employees and applications began to strain IT resources as well as the space needed to contain them. Dallas County Information Services needed a way to enable county staff to better and more efficiently serve more residents while shrinking its data center footprint—despite growing IT demands.
To carry out this service-enhancing IT strategy and improve operational cost and space efficiencies, IP Pathways leveraged VMware vSphere technology to help Dallas County virtualize most of its physical servers. The servers are connected to a powerful, easily scaled NetApp FAS3220 system equipped with NetApp Flash Cache intelligent caching for system wide acceleration.
Now able to easily scale its storage infrastructure, the county recently added another 30TB of disk to store all patrol car and surveillance videos for the sheriff’s department and county jail. “Instead of maintaining an on-premises physical server, the sheriff’s department and county jail now benefit from the reliability and cost savings of the county’s shared and replicated NetApp infrastructure,” says Gibson.
“With NetApp and VMware technology we are well-positioned to handle continued growth and extend IT resources as needed,” adds Noah. “We just create a virtual machine, and with a wireless connection even staff requirements in remote sites are easily supported.”
